My family didn’t prioritize watching the news or subscribe to any publications. I’m neither well-read nor particularly cultured, and I can’t name many famous journalists. No clear path led me here, to such a strong love for finding stories and telling them.
But being involved in this industry is a life sentence I’m happy to serve.
As a reporter, I enjoy covering the economy, local government and homelessness. My long-term goal is to run a community news organization.
I also want to teach, so when I get my hands on a master’s degree (if you have a spare one, call me) I’ll teach a class at a local university, but not at a renowned journalism program. I want to teach at an affordable college and get those students excited to be part of this industry. I keep a running list of teaching activities so I’ll be prepared when I have a classroom.
There are so many of us looking for jobs and trying to stay positive — I choose to focus on why I love doing this, and what I know I’m good at. When I go looking for a job, I’m confident it’ll show.
